Judging a Book By It’s Cover

You’ve all heard the phrase

“You Can’t Judge a Book by it’s Cover”

But yet we all do it.

Just think about it,  when you’re browsing in a bookstore aren’t you attracted to a book by how interesting the cover is?   They may be colorful, or have some unique picture or phrase that grabs your attention so you’ll pick it up to find out more, right?  They are designed that way, that’s marketing.

Believe it or not it is the same with people!

Did you know that you only have three to seven seconds upon meeting someone to make an impression on them?   In this short time, the other person will form an opinion about you that is based on your appearance, your body language, your demeanor, your mannerisms, and how you are dressed.

That means you will be  judged before you can even open your mouth to speak!

This is done on a subconscious/emotional level of the brain.  So there is nothing you can do about it, or can you?

As Will Rogers once said “You never get a second chance to make a first impression

Like it or not, you need to grab people’s attention right away by your appearance.

Though your true beauty is on the inside, your personality will take time for people to see.

“It’s beauty that captures your attention; personality which captures your heart.” ~Anonymous ~

There is only one that does not judge you by your looks, that is God.  “…for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” 1 Sam. 16:7b.

But when dealing with people how you present yourself will determine if someone will want to be your friend, consider you for a job, or feel that you are trustworthy, and so on.

So what can you do to make a good first impression that will last?   How important is your appearance?

Your clothes, your hair, and your mannerisms all play a part in the impression you make on others.

Let’s start with the way you dress.

What is the best way to dress for the meeting or occasion?  If it’s a business meeting, a job interview, or a first date even, think about  what is the appropriate attire?  Also ask yourself what other people will be wearing so you are not over or under dressed for the event.

Wearing the correct Season of colors for your specific skin tone, eyes and hair is crucial in making the best impression and feeling confident about your appearance.

If you have confidence in yourself others will notice right away.  A polite and courteous behavior helps make a good first impression.

How about your personal grooming?   Cleanliness is next to godliness!  Nicely styled hair, neat and clean clothes (not wrinkled like you wore them to bed the night before), and appropriately applied makeup are all important.  Oh yeah and take it easy on the perfume!  Too much can be just as offensive if not more so than none at all.

Project a positive attitude, even when you are nervousness, and remember to smile,  it’s contagious!

People will “read” you on the outside before getting to know you on the inside, so strive to be the most beautiful you can be both inside and out.

Beauty Only Skin Deep?

I’m sure you’ve all heard the phrase,

“Beauty is only skin deep”

Although your “True Beauty” lies within you, people will never get to know your inner beauty until they meet you and accept you on the outside first.

Your beautiful appearance starts with your skin.  All the makeup in the world cannot hide skin that is poorly maintained.  Proper daily skin care makes a hugh difference in your appearance. You can not only see, but feel the difference when your complexion has a natural radiant glow.

The Skinny on Skin:

Did you know that your skin is the largest living organ of your body?  It covers your whole body and protects everything inside.

But it is also one of the most neglected and unappreciated parts of the body.

The skin has three main functions:

1.  Protection (from germs and injury)

2.  Temperature control (through perspiration, to aid in keeping the body’s internal organs close to our normal internal temperature of 98.6° F.)

3.  Perception (nerve endings in our skin give us sensations of touch, pain, heat, and cold)

The skin is made up of three cell layers:

The Epidermis (outer layer)  Though you can’t see it happening, every minute of the day we lose about 30,000 to 40,000 dead skin cells off the surface of our skin.   A substance called Melanin gives skin its color. The darker your skin is, the more melanin you have. But even though melanin is mighty, it can’t shield you from the sun’s UVA rays. Protecting your skin can help prevent skin cancer when you get older.

The Dermis (middle layer) You can’t see your dermis because it’s hidden under your epidermis. The dermis contains nerve endings, blood vessels, oil glands, and sweat glands. It also contains collagen and other materials vital to the skin’s strength, its ability to repair itself and fight off infections.

The Subcutaneous tissue ( bottom layer)   It is the border zone between muscle and bone tissues on one side, and the dermis on the other,  serves as insulation, a food reserve and binds the skin to your body.

Skin is also the site of the body’s natural production of vitamin D, stimulated by exposure to sunlight.

Now that you know the important functions your skin plays in your overall well being how important is it to take care of your skin?

Let’s face it, your face is your interaction with the world, so shouldn’t that be one of the most important parts to take care of?

Proper daily skin care is essential to your overall health, and beauty.

There are basically three skin types: Normal, Dry and Oily or a combination of Dry and Oily.

This is important to know in order to use the right products for your specific type.

Darker skin tones tend to produce more oil.  Fairer skin tends to be dryer, fragile, and is more susceptable to sun damage and skin cancer.

Did you know that the ultaviolet rays from the sun cause 90% of all signs of aging?  This is why you need to protect your skin (especially your face) when being exposed to the sun for extended periods.

Bottom line is if you take good care of your skin it will take good care of you!

And throw away the key.

I Love YOU Sweetheart!

A Woman’s Touch

Homes have atmospheres.  They come in all sizes and shapes, and can be made of brick, wood or stone, but it is not what is on the outside that is important. It is not even the quality of the furnishings or the expensive neighborhood that make a home beautiful.

A home radiates the mood and character of the family who dwells there.  A  home can feel warm and inviting; or stuffy and uncomfortable.   It is the woman of the house that exudes her heart and soul into her surrounding to provide a welcome place of  contentment  for her family, and friends.

Home is Where Your Heart is.  It should reflect your inner beauty.customhomes

In general, most men are not too concerned about their surroundings (just look at an average bachelor’s pad).   So your husband may not be able to offer you much advise on decorating.  But men do enjoy the home that has a charming “woman’s touch”.

Here are a few basics ways you can turn your home into a warm and loving environment.

1.  Make People Feel Welcome.

Keep your home in a state of readiness to accept visitors at any time.  You don’t have to be a “clean freak”, just keep it clean, tidy, and inviting.  Most importantly you want your husband and children to enjoy coming  home, and feel like there is no place else they would rather be.

2.  Fill your Home with Sweet Aromas.

You do not want your house to smell like a hospital, the smell of cleaning products is not inviting!  So after cleaning you can sweeten the air with scented candles,  incense, or heat up some potpourri on the stove before guest arrive, or family comes home.  Just don’t over do it, too much fragrance can have the opposite affect.  You just want a light, subtil aroma in the air.

3.  Keep your Home Organized.

Clutter causes confusion and frustration not only for you, but your family and guests.   Keeping your home well organized is important.  Children need to learn from a small age to pickup their rooms, but parents need to practice what they preach.   On the other hand you don’t want to have such a tight ship that no one feels comfortable either.  I’ve been in homes where they don’t want you to sit on their expensive couch or walk on their newly laid carpet.   What about the people who live there?  You don’t want your house to be a museum!  If things get broken or soiled “oh well” it happens.   Just teach kids to have respect for each others things, and you won’t have to worry.

4.   Eat Meals Together.

Life is hectic, and families are always on the go, but taking time to have full sit down dinners together regularly will bond your relationships with spouse and kids, and bring unity to your household.  Invite extended family and friends over for dinner once in a while, it will break up the day-to-day routine and make those times happy and memorable experiences.

5.  Make Room for Improvement.  I don’t mean tear down walls and renovate your entire home.  In your mind picture what you would like your home to be, not just in appearance, but how you want people to feel when they enter your home.  Think about others homes that you feel comfortable in and what makes them so warm and inviting.  Then make a  list of little things you could improve on, and start making gradual changes, as you can afford to.  You don’t want to make too many drastic changes as it will upset your family’s stability and your budget.  Slight changes for the better will be welcome.

Remember your home is a reflection of your heart!

The Truth About What Men Find Attractive

Have you ever asked yourself, What do most Men consider Attractive in Women?

You could ask your girlfriend what she thinks, but wouldn’t it make more sense to ask a man?  Most women seem to think that all a man is attracted to is Big Breasts or an Hour Glass figure, like a Barbie Doll.

Those of you (myself included) that grew up with Barbies, didn’t you think that you were supposed to develop into having that same type of figure?  Like that was the norm!

But if you take the measurements of Barbie, she would be over 7 feet tall, weigh around 125 pounds, and have a shape of 32-20-42.  How obsurd to think a woman could attain or maintain a figure like that !   You would be surprised though how many women actually try by using plastic surgery, breast implants and liposuction.

In addition, Barbie has a very long neck. In fact, her neck is nearly twice the size of the average woman.  And Barbie’s feet are only half the size of a normal woman’s (like that of the ancient Chinese women that had their feet bound).

Are men really attracted to Barbie Doll figures?

Let’s find out The Truth about what Men think is Attractive, shall we?

Here are some recent findings concerning what men find attractive in women,  that may surprise you.

1.  Smile- is like a magnet that can draw his attention and keep it

2.  Feminine and delicate Nature –delicate, soft, kind hearted and caring

3.  A woman’s voice- a highly feminine and soft voice

4.  Sense of humor-a good sense of humor, understands and laughs at jokes

5.  Un-materialistic attitude-down to earth, not high maintenance

6.  Strong personality –not weak minded, can make sound decisions

7.  The eyes –the the window to the soul, can speak a thousand words

8.  The Woman’s Hair- most like moderately long feminine style hair

9.  Physical Structure-skin tone, lips, height and body weight

10. Comfortable and Confident-one who supports him, and the one with whom he feels relaxed and open

Did you notice that physical appearance is # 9,  not # 1!

What do men think of Breast Implants?  Is size important ?

The fact of the matter is, though men do love to look at a woman with implants and would also not mind sleeping with her, they will certainly not like having a woman like this as a life time partner. In addition to that, most men love natural breasts over artificial ones. So even if the implants make the chest look bigger and hotter they are as a matter of fact, artificial. Artificial breasts can actually be a major turn-off to most men. This is because men start feeling that their woman partner is not reacting to their touches and squeezes (which is obviously the case when a woman has implants they do tend to reduce the sensitivity of the breasts).

If you work on these 10 things you’ll be surprised at how much more attractive you’ll be to your husband, or boyfriend.  And you will be less worried about looking like Barbie.

But don’t forget the importance of eating right and getting exercise to stay in the best health. You want to be your best inside and out!

Remember # 1 Keep on Smiling!  When you have confidence and are comfortable with yourself it will show in your smile.

And #4 Laugh allot. It’s contagious, and good for your soul and your relationship!
